Dr. Bilal Shaukat is a board-certified, fellowship-trained retina and vitreoretinal specialist with expertise in the medical and surgical management of complex retinal diseases, including diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal tears, and retinal detachments.
A graduate of Villanova University’s competitive 7-Year B.S./M.D. program, Dr. Shaukat earned his Doctor of Medicine from Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and received the Department of Surgery Award. He completed his ophthalmology residency at LSU Health Shreveport, serving as Chief Resident and earning the John W. Henderson MD Award for Best Resident Presentation. He went on to complete his Surgical Retina Fellowship at Retina Associates Chicago/Cook County Hospital System.
Committed to advancing care beyond the exam room, Dr. Shaukat is an active sub-investigator in multiple nationally recognized clinical trials through the DRCR Retina Network, with a focus on innovative treatments for diabetic macular edema and neovascular age-related macular degeneration. His research has been published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at regional and national ophthalmology conferences.
Dr. Shaukat is a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists and the American Academy of Ophthalmology and is fluent in English, Spanish, and Urdu/Hindi.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Shaukat is a proud girl dad to his daughter and loves every chance to spoil her alongside his wife. A multi-sport enthusiast, he stays active through basketball, soccer, and squash and is a die-hard Formula 1 fan. He also loves traveling and exploring new places with family and friends. A new Texan, Dr. Shaukat sees patients at our East Houston, Pasadena, Pearland, and League City offices.
