Although she is not a native of Texas, Dr. Sonia Laurenzi is excited to call Texas her home now. Spending her childhood outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and Spanish from the University of Scranton in 2004. Following graduation, she worked in optical retail before enrolling at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University. She gained clinical experience at various externships focused on pediatrics, contact lenses, and ocular disease in the Philadelphia area as well as the Philadelphia VA hospital. After graduating in 2009, Dr. Laurenzi moved to New Jersey, where she completed a residency program at the New Jersey VA Hospital in Lyons, NJ, through SUNY College of Optometry in New York in 2010.
After residency, Dr. Laurenzi joined Coventry Eye Associates in Phillipsburg, NJ, and practiced there for five years, working with two ophthalmologists. There she further developed her skills in treating many ocular diseases as well as pre- and post-operative management of cataract surgery. During her time at Coventry, she joined Hunterdon Family Eye Care in Annandale, NJ, in 2012, where she saw patients of all ages for over ten years. Her areas of focus include routine eye examinations, including detecting, treating, and managing ocular diseases such as dry eye, macular degeneration, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy. She enjoys fitting all contact lenses and taking the time to make sure patients are happy.
In 2022, Dr. Laurenzi moved to Houston, excited about life in Texas. She is licensed to practice in Texas as a Therapeutic Optometrist and Optometric Glaucoma Specialist.
When not at work, Dr. Laurenzi enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, exploring the area, and traveling to visit friends and family.
