Dr. Megan Heany was born and raised on a farm in a small town in Nebraska. She graduated with honors from Nebraska Wesleyan University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with an emphasis in Chemistry and Psychology. While at Nebraska Wesleyan, Dr. Heany held several leadership positions in campus organizations such as the peer assistance program, the interfraternity council, and the panhellenic council as well as volunteering weekly with her local sorority chapter at community and campus events.
After completing her undergraduate degree, Dr. Heany attended the University of Houston College of Optometry where she earned her Doctor of Optometry degree in 2007. During that time, Dr. Heany completed an article for publication focused on the visual effects of pituitary tumors. Additionally, she completed intense training at several practices in the Dallas and Houston areas while fulfilling her externship requirements. These sites enabled her to gain valuable knowledge and skill sets imperative to successful practice in the field.
The Vision Care Institute in Jacksonville, Florida recognized Dr. Heany as a specialist in contact lens fitting for astigmatism and bifocal/multifocal contact lenses. Her extensive training and background in contact lenses serve as her foundation for successfully fitting even the most challenging contact lens patients.
Dr. Heany entered practice in rural Alvin, TX in 2007 which led her to become a well-rounded eye care provider as she managed various eye conditions, surgical pre-and post-op care, and gained experience with all ages in routine eye health examinations. She then became a partner in a prestigious LASIK clinic in Sugar Land for several years before joining Houston Eye Associates in 2014. Dr. Heany is the proud mother of two children, Elliana and Anthony. She enjoys reading, working on her fitness, and traveling.
