Carolyn Chen, M.D.

Carolyn Chen, M.D. was born in Los Angeles and grew up in Houston, Texas where she attended Bellaire High School. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with honors from Stanford University. She completed her medical education at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, and an internship in Internal Medicine at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in Santa Clara, California. She graduated from her ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center-Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas. Following residency, she completed a surgical fellowship in Vitreoretinal Disease at the New England Eye Center at Tufts Medical Center and at the Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston in Massachusetts.

Dr. Chen is a board-certified diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology. She is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Texas Medical Association, the Association for Vision and Research in Ophthalmology, and the American Society of Retinal Specialists. She has published articles in medical journals and presented research at national ophthalmology meetings on topics including the treatment of age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and vitreoretinal surgery.

Dr. Chen is married to Louis Verstringhe, M.D., a corneal specialist and comprehensive ophthalmologist at Houston Eye Associates. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, cooking, reading, and spending time with her friends and family.
