Adult and Pediatric Glaucoma
Dr. Thung was born and raised in Walnut Creek, California. She graduated with Highest Distinction from the University of California, Berkeley where she majored in Molecular and Cell Biology and minored in Music. She received her medical degree from UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Thung completed her ophthalmology residency training at the Cullen Eye Institute at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, followed by a fellowship in Glaucoma at the renowned Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA.
Dr. Thung has participated as an investigator in numerous research studies. Her honors and awards during her academic career include a Letter of Distinction for excellence in medical course work and the Chaikoff Award for Research Excellence in Cell & Developmental Biology.
Dr. Thung has actively volunteered as a Health Examiner at several organizations, including: Care Harbor in Los Angeles, the UCLA Mobile Clinic, UCLA’s Muslim Medical Association Community Clinic, UCLA Student-Run Homeless Clinics, and health screenings in the Houston area. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, the American Medical Association, and the Texas Ophthalmological Association.
Dr. Thung is also a concert violinist and performs with the Texas Medical Center Orchestra. The orchestra’s mission is to contribute culturally to the community and raise funds for local charities as well as medical organizations, such as the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, through its concerts. When not seeing patients or playing her violin, Dr. Thung enjoys recreational cycling, hiking, and gourmet cooking with her husband, Dr. Victor Chang, who is a cornea specialist at Houston Eye Associates.
