Houston Eye Associates is pleased to welcome Dr. Ravi Shah to our outstanding group of physicians. Dr. Shah is a highly recognized ophthalmologist who specializes in cornea, refractive and anterior segment surgery. He is also published in several peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and encyclopedia entries.

At seven, Dr. Shah accompanied his uncle, a fellow ophthalmologist, to the operating room. He instantly grew into a love for medicine, but he thought he wanted to do something different from his uncle. It wasn’t until he attended a clinical rotation at Texas Children’s that he knew ophthalmology was the path for him. “It was the most interesting clinic I had been in at that point. Even after weeks of clinic, I was still very intrigued,” Dr. Shah explained, “The eye is an extraordinarily small organ; however, it is ridiculously complex. Not many other medical or surgical specialties have 10 + subspecialties that are each extremely intricate.”

Dr. Shah believes that each patient is a priority and that it’s essential to go beyond the diagnosis to listen to them as a person instead of a patient. Dr. Shah elaborated, “You can diagnose them with a condition, you can treat or cure the condition, but you still might not have answered their concerns, limiting your ability to alleviate their fears and anxieties. Listening and being attuned to their needs is essential.”

When he’s not performing surgery or seeing patients, you can find Dr. Shah rock climbing at Momentum Gym, watching Modern Family, or playing board games with his wife and dog. Dr. Shah also enjoys traveling. So far, some of his favorite trips include jet-setting to Banff, Canada, and visiting Seville, Spain, with his wife.

Dr. Shah is now seeing patients at our Pearland and League City locations.
