William S. Banks III, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. Banks was born in Houston and, although the product of 2 generations of lawyers, decided on a medical career relatively early in life. After attending public schools in Houston, he graduated from the University of Texas in Austin and the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston. Further education then took him to Columbus, Ohio for a one year “rotating” internship. During his internship at Ohio State University, exposure to an excellent teaching program in ophthalmology encouraged him to apply for a residency position. He was accepted, and after a two year delay serving as a ship-board medical officer in the U.S. Navy, he returned to Ohio State for a 3 year residency in ophthalmology.
Dr. Banks returned to Houston and joined the Houston Eye Hospital Group which had been started by Dr. Everett Goar, an eminent ophthalmologist from the early days of medicine in Houston. Six years later Dr. Banks decided to open his own office and has practiced ophthalmology in the southwest part of Houston ever since. In 1996, Dr. Alison Lin joined him in practice. In 2005, Drs. Banks and Lin joined Houston Eye Associates. Dr. Banks sees patients at the West Holcombe and Southwest Freeway offices. He practices general ophthalmology.
Dr. Banks is a board certified in ophthalmologist, a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and a fellow of the American College of Surgery. He has been an instructor for Baylor ophthalmology residents at Ben Taub County Hospital and has served as President of the Houston Ophthalmology Society. He has donated his time for surgical trips to developing countries of Latin America organized by BMI (Benevolent Missions International) and is on the board of that organization.
Dr. Banks and his wife, Beth, have two children, Hanly and Tom. His hobbies include hunting, fishing, golf, and some gardening.
