W. Colby Stewart M.D., F.A.C.S.

W. Colby Stewart M.D., F.A.C.S. Dr. Colby Stewart completed his ophthalmology training and his internship at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in 1996. He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Stewart is a general ophthalmologist with extensive training in glaucoma management, laser refractive surgery (LASIK), and topical and no-stitch cataract surgery.

Dr. Stewart grew up in Houston, and has been immersed in ophthalmology his entire life. His father was one of the original founders of Houston Eye Associates and his uncle also practiced in the group. As a teenager, Dr. Stewart worked with his father during summers which sparked his passion for ophthalmology. Soon after his residency in ophthalmology Dr. Stewart left for Tennessee to start his own practice with special concentration on laser refractive surgery. He was one of the first surgeons in Tennessee to perform LASIK surgery, and was one of the few surgeons at that time performing topical-anesthetic, no-stitch cataract surgery.

In 2003, Dr. Stewart joined his father at Houston Eye Associates and began his 2 year fellowship in glaucoma management and anterior segment surgery. While in Houston, he was one of the first surgeons to implant toric and multifocal intraocular lenses, which allows patients to be less dependent on glasses after cataract surgery. He has participated multiple clinical studies for drugs and devices in various phases of FDA approval and for pharmaceutical/device companies. He has been published in surgical periodicals, and frequently lectures at continuing education seminars for eye doctors and ophthalmologists around the country.

Dr. Stewart has designed LASIK instrumentation that is sold world-wide., He has also developed internet based LASIK outcome tracking software to help insure patients receive the best possible vision correction. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, The Houston Ophthalmological Society, The Texas Ophthalmology Association, The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the International Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

Dr. Stewart has been on staff at the University of Texas in Galveston as well as the Senior Resident Faculty for Alcon.
